[10/02][SEA] Tipper, Trona, Theory in Motion - ALL AGES

Innov8ors is proud to present an all ages break-beat event, celebrating the return of Dave Tipper, who hasnt played an all ages event in Seattle for at least 2 years!

INNOV8ORS pres. BREAKFAST on SAT OCT 2

Featured Performers:

TIPPER (LIVE)
(My Utopia Recordings, Native Instruments, Fuel UK, Sony)

Tipper makes music for sound systems, with a diversity that ranges from bass fuelled electro-breaks, to hip-hop, to intricately programmed downtempo, to full orchestral compositions etc; music that demands to be played at high volumes to unleash their lethal potential. With a musical background in classical training, and listing influences from drum & bass, to hip-hop, to electronica, Tipper has created his own brand of devastating dancefloor bombs and after club ear-teasers. He is admired for being "streaks ahead," and his "expertly crafted" productions are dubbed as being "frightening yet refreshingcif it doesn't move you check for a pulse."

Tipper has also been heavily experimenting with "surround sound", and the possibilities of taking sound to new levels. After many hours of tweaking, Tipper has just completed his latest album "SURROUNDED." Mixed in a 5.1 studio in Los Angeles, he has created a whole new listening experience, with melting melodies, intricate programming, and sounds that circle you in a teasing and sometimes disorienting manner. Once again, Tipper ventures into new ground with this album, keeping it in the downtempo arena and exploring a wide range of styles that flow effortlessly and seamlessly from start to finish.

Not surprisingly this unique and effective sound is in high demand. Tipper has remixed a host of artists including such emissaries as Leftfield, Grooverider, S.I. Futures, mu-ziq, Headrillaz, and the seminal Africa Bambaata. He has released 9 singles and 2 albums through labels Fuel, Higher Ground and Sony; he has also written for the Renault Laguna and Board X TV advertising campaigns.

As a DJ/performer his prestigious talents are well respected throughout the breaks scene and beyond. In a recent pole for DJ magazine he was voted ahead of fellow breaks luminaries Hyper, Rennie Pilgrem, Freq Nasty and BLIM. His fluent mixing and remarkable scratching skills have secured him gigs throughout the world.

TRONA
(Moonshine, i-lektrick (UK), www.tronaonline.com)
** Vinyl promo giveaways! **

North Carolina's Trona is no doubt one of stateside's key figures in the nu-breaks movement. Although he's known throughout the southeast for his bass heavy and electro-funk selections, he is also one of the key players in the deep progressive arena which can be heard from his releases on Moonshine, his remix of Icelandic pop group Gus Gus, and his current collaborations with the west coast band Cirrus. Trona's first release on Moonshine's GREEN imprint found a place in many dj charts overseas. His 2nd release "Dangerous" was to go even further by getting radio play by Whole Nine Yard's Dark Globe. He ended 2003 with one of his most solid releases to date "Rhythm Man (turn up)" with the insanely brilliant "Insanity" to back the release. One can only expect the best that breakbeat has to offer when Trona is in performance.

THEORY IN MOTION (LIVE)
(Innov8ors, www.theoryinmotion.com - Seattle, WA)
** Promo Giveaways from upcoming album! **

Theory in Motion (TNM) is Danny James and Dillin Quent's wholly original musical and theatrical creation. While TNM is primarily born of their own musical passion and exuberant vision, it is also at least partly a response to the somewhat tiresome, often repetitive and the... well, there's just no other way to put this - the endemic unoriginality of DJs.

They have put together what they believe is a captivating live act that consists not only of great original music, but impressive theatrics and live renditions. Danny James incorporates a live electronic drum kit, turntable manipulation and live singing. Dillin Quent plays melodies on the keyboard, mixes/EQs the tracks and sings backup vocals. Both of them control the laptop running Cubase live. They also dance for and with the crowd, before, during and after their performance, contributing to a close-knit atmosphere with an incredible overall vibe.

"Are you ready? very chill.. and nostalgically fresh. Good flow of tempo and beat changes.. very rad beats and new sounds.. this cd definitely takes you on a journey.. kinda like driving a fast car in a cool city... if there is any way in which you can understand what i say, give me a signal!" ~ reviwer of "Are you Ready" on cdbaby.com

DJ UNDECIDED
(Urban-Breaks - Seattle, WA)

KREEPER & SIDIOUS
(Virus!
Astral Projection, comprised of members Avi Nissim and Lior Perlmutter have been members of Israel's underground dance music scene since the early 1980's, beginning their production career in 1989 (when they first teamed up). They began recording material as SFX (short for sound effects) and first released a track in 1991. After a few releases, they produced Trust in Trance Vol 1 (as SFX) in 1994, marking the beginning of Trust in Trance records.

In 1995, they released Trust in Trance Vol 2, as the now legendary performer "Astral Projection". "People Can Fly" had a full computerized animation created for it, which played on MTV Europe, Viva, MLM, Channel , M6 and other TV stations over Europe.

Syndicate Recordings & Lovetribe are proud to present the return of two of the most influential figures in the international psychedelic trance scene. Let's welcome them back for another mind altering, life changing, foot stomping performance!

.: Main Room (Psychedelic Trance) :.

INFECTED MUSHROOM (LIVE/DJ)
(Universal, BNE Records - Israel)

Infected Mushroom are Erez Aizen and Amit Duvdevani (also known as Duvdev). This duo from Israel has rocked the trance world with each album release. Their "Gathering" album occupies a place in the "most played trance album" list and is the perfect starting point for any new hard psytrance. With the album "BP Empire", they have improvised a new soundscape and shown why they are among the top trance acts ever. The recent release of the Birthday EP (with Barry Sakharof), was only a teaser of their ingenuity and inventiveness with trance music, incorporating guitars and fluid vocals.

With the release of "Converting Vegetarians", this israeli duo go a few steps beyond the standard and cough up not only classical pieces but also a harsh, funky and acidic flavour, making their trance journey an aural blast far surpassing the norm. They create a massively funkadelic atmosphere complete with experimental twangs, twists and ambient noises which play alongside deep bass and frantic beats. add in acidic flavour for another unusual but highly entertaining take on the electronic / trance genre.

GAVIN
(Spectra - New York, NY)

Gavin began DJing in 1998. He was convinced to attend a dance party in Western Massachusetts. After an amazing night of music he ordered turntables and began to collect progressive trance. In December of that same year Gavin organized his first dance party. After a few years of practicing his skills, Gavin began to play out, and also began to play psychedelic trance. In the year 2000, Gavin moved to New York city to continue his DJing and to organize psy-trance events.

By 2002, Gavin was exploring more progressive sounds. He went forward with this style, opting for music with more natural rythms and groovier basslines. Playing alongside some of the masters of the progressive sound was a big influence. Inspired by artists like Son Kite and Vibrasphere, Gavin developed as a DJ and began to travel more frequently for gigs. Gigs in Mexico, Denmark, Germany, and Brazil provided Gavin with some international exposure. Continuing to play in New York and Boston, Gavin looks forward to upcoming gigs in Europe and Morocco.

KRI
(T.O.U.C.H. Samadhi - Asheville NC)

Kri is the dj who never ceases to amaze with his ability to tap into the moment and play exactly what is fuckin¹ right. Right, that is, if you like your Trance tracks like a tidal wave, like a werewolf¹s howl, like a sandblaster bursting open your third eye.

As he comes across quiet and somewhat reserved in person, one would not, at first, realize that Kri is on a mission, a serious quest to bring Psychedelic Trance music to the people, and to bring the people to a state of enlightenment in the process. He has single handedly created a devout Trance family in a tiny, southern town that had previously never heard of any such thing, orchestrating parties and gatherings whose emphasis is holistic, about the music and the magic, never getting lost in the hype or the egocentrism of the business.

To listen to Kri play is to remember our legacy as spiritual beings with tumultuous desires, with an innate need to pound our feet into the Earth to raise our prayers to the heaven...on the dance floor that translates to his creating all-consuming, orgiastic rituals of dance where he pushes you past your limits to a place beyond a ³good party² or a ³great time,² but to a place where you can capture a glimpse of a future in which the primal and the technological fuse to bring us a passionate and fulfilling existence on a planet that survives.

CHRIS SCHMIDT
(Phantasm, Organix Productions - Vancouver, BC)

Chris has been djing since the age of 13. Starting off in Victoria, doing a punk radio show on CFUV, the local University Radio station. The founding member of Organix. Chris is a no compromise dj, playing full on energy music. Best known for his quirky samples and ridiculous buildups, always rying to take things were you don't expect them to go. He is a label DJ for Phantasm Records and will be playing some of his original tracks (which are created under the name Aya).

NICK TORNETTA
(F-8, LoveTribe, Organix Productions - Seattle, WA)

Nick's DJ career began well before his first party. Starting in house and breaks, his love for trance quickly led him to the Psychedelic side. Since then, Nick has played with international acts such as Infected Mushroom, Deedrah, Psysex and more.
so i was under the impression that today was my first day.. 1st mistake (i start wed)

i wasnt given an address to report to, so I looked online and the seattletimescompany.com site said they were housed in the PI building. i thought this was interesting, since ive seen a seattle times building by 13 coins, but i figured it was the right place to go... 2nd mistake (wrong building)

they send me to the seattle times building by 13 coins, and by this time I am about 20 minutes late. here i am racking my brain because my whole goal here is to make a good impression and hopefully land something permanent..

this is when it was revealed to me that i was not supposed to come in until wednesday.. so now, after having spent 10 dollars on parking i had to go home.

but today has turned out to be much better then i thought upon waking up. i got to give my parking spot to someone as they were pulling in, and i have a date later this evening.. yee hoo!

At a start music was only a common interest between the two but but the future had a bit more in stock then that. Andreas who previous to trance[]control played various instruments and was used to music programming had a fairly solid background within music. This compared to Alexander who pretty much didn’t have any background within music what so ever.

Today trance[]control is one of the largest, most well known and most downloaded bands on the internet (nearly 10 MILLION downloads on mp3.com). Even though the time from start to today has been fairly short counted in years, the path still has been long with many tricky turns along the way.

Their style & sound can generally be described as hard, progressive & melodic trance. But keep in mind that trance is a very broad genre where the lines between the different sub-genres are extremely thin. The bands specialty has over the years become to produce music that appeal people that normaly wouldn’t listen to this type of music. The age-scale of their listeners range from 10-65 years, though the more common group of people are between 15-30 years old. Despite the slightly odd and undergroundbased style of this band, their music still appeal the most addicted trance lovers out there as well. For instance, the band frequently is compared to other superstar Dj’s such as Commander Tom, BT, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Dj Tiësto to name a few.

Discography:

[CD Albums @ MP3.com]
01.10.1999 the.demo.cd
08.16.1999 Beyond 2000
07.26.2001 Audiographic Moments
06.20.2002 MISSION 2002 Vol.1
09.24.2003 MISSION 2002 Vol.2

[CD Albums @ Retail]
08.22.2000 Beyond 2001 – the Resurrection – Sunrise / SHR – USA
01.15.2002 OUT THERE (Discontinued due to label crash) – Sunrise / SHR – USA

[12” Vinyl]
04.11.2000 Health Warning – Flash Traxx / SHR – USA
06.13.2000 trance[]control – Flash Traxx / SHR – USA

[ReMixes]
03.23.2000 Move – Rage your Dream [trance[]control ReMix] – AVEX TRAXX - Japan
06.13.2000 Madonna – Justify my Love [trance[]control ReMix] – Colossal / SHR

[Compilations]
07.29.2000 Ecstacy Vol.1 – Flash Traxx / SHR – USA
05.29.2001 Ecstacy Vol.2 – Flash Traxx / SHR – USA
10.02.2003 TRANCE GAMER 2 - Earstuff/France - Japanese release

We are excited to have trance[]control in the US once again.
this weekend was fun.. i got to extend the birthday/halloween celebrations with my pals in eugene..

the drive from seattle portland was made easier by listening to the first half of my new prog psy cdthe drive (from portland to eug and back at least) was made a lot easier by Misty, a friend of eric's that needed a ride to the party. we had a lot of stuff in common, and a bunch of good conversation. when we got there, aside from eric she was also the only person that i knew. needless to say, thanks to misty i had a really good time :) thanks also to eric for throwing a bitchin party. on the way back from eug, misty and i stopped into this trucker cafe for breakfast. man, this was about as "trucker" as it gets.. semis parked in the lot, 18 wheeler magazines on each table, a sign on the door that said "CAUTION, MICROWAVE IN USE" and many more fun things.

the drive back to seattle was teh sux0rz. i had to stop to sleep twice, the first time snapping the lever to bend the seat back. so both times, i had to jump to the side seat and nap. finally when i got home, i was getting ready to rest and ryan calls me asking for his camera.. when he got to my house to pick it up, he told me about how there was still 1 1/2 kegs left from the halloween party in HELLvue. well, seeing as how i didnt want him to have to return some kegs that were too heavy, i made my way over there and had a few pints. we watched Dreamcatcher, which is a fantastic movie, and part of Wargames before i decided to head home.

word.

not the craziest one i have ever had, but definitely fun.

lexx, his girlfriend and i started off the evening by going to the neighbors "haunted house" turns out, it was only a haunted porch, but they still did a lot to decorate (they do every year). highlight of the haunted porch was the rapping mummy (one of the neighbors)

at this point, we finally heard back from ryan and got some directions to this party:

.. which turned out to be a good time. i saw a LOT of friends that i havent seen for a while (including 2 ex's). there was 3 dj areas in this big ass house, the first of which i was scheduled to play on. we got there early, so we busted out the vodka and proceeded to get likkered up. in process, beau came down with a werewolf suit costume, and offered to let me use the other one he had in the car! HELL YEAH. call it wierd, but ive always wanted to terrorize the public while wearing at least an ape suit. tonight i achieved that goal. so as the night went on, i gradually transformed into the werewolf.. starting with the hands... then the feet. when i got to the decks, i was in full attire. however, i didnt wear the hands because it was too hard to play, and i didnt wear the mask because it was hard to see. anyway, i was all full of energy, and played a ripping psytrance set. the suit was pretty comfortable too, and extra cool because i wore my organix shirt over it. there was some flashes, and i saw dave taking pictures with his camera phone, so i will post those on my website soon.

the rest of the party was cool (dave and adrian kicked ass), except the end where my headphone bag came up missing.

now today begins with exercise and working on the mix, and then off to my moms for the last of my birthday celebrations. after that, I am off to eugene for this stylus grooves party that my good friend pipedream (eric) invited me to. yum yum.

my trip to canada went really well. when i got to the border, i ended up being about 3 cars behind this camper, thinking that i was never going to make it through. however, i only waited about 5 minutes before another lane opened up. it was moving pretty fast, and when it was my turn, they asked me about 4 questions and just let me through without even checking my papers. probably the best/quickest experience ive had to date.

this was my second time to club 23 west, and i made the same mistake by turning LEFT on cordova instead of right. stupid mapquest needs to fix their directions! the club didnt have very many people in it at the time, but people started to trickle in. goa pete had opened up the night, and was playing when i got there. chris (schmidt) was out promoting when i got there, but i eventually found steve (angel). he was very nice, and took it upon himself to show me how to use the cd player. the mixer was fine (a very nice allen & heath), however the cdjs were definitely not something i was used to. it was a dual denon cd deck, with an unfamiliar jog dial and ffwd/rewind. i was struggling a bit, but then steve showed me the secret pitch bend buttons and after that i had things under control. i ended up playing a bunch of guitar tracks in the beginning of my set which should have been spaced out, but werent too bad. the rest of my set was alright, and i got a bunch of positive comments after it (even from the bartender/manager Tiny). i have found that i have been getting that alot now.. must mean i can actually mix! ;) chris also invited me back, and we kind of established a monthly residency for me @ organix.

after the show, i helped chris and crew clean up. we had a couple beers and ended up hanging out at the club for a while. chris, another friend and i went to this cozy vegetarian restaurant afterwards (its about 6 am at this time). i forget the guys name, but we ended up talking about SCA (society of creative anachronism), which he happened to be a member of and was actually in costume for. he explained the whole culture of it, the organization, etc.. how he was considered a Lord, and stuff. i told him about how my friend adrian and i have seen people practicing swordfighting under the freeways, some of whom were in full armor. he said that it was the SCA, and went off explaining a bunch of things about what they were probably doing. it has struck me as interesting, as before i talked with him i was making fun of those people, but he definitely changed my viewpoint a bit. although, i do think its funny that a bunch of grown adults are making/wearing armor, and beating eachother with sticks and metal in the middle of the night.

we ended up at chris' house later that day.. and all continued talking until about 9:30 in the am. the next day (which ended up being 3:30 in the afternoon), chris showed me some stuff on cubase and introduced me to a cool vst. talked some more, and we went to yet another fantastic vegetarian restaurant on commercial ave.. there was a festival of some kind going on, which seemed pretty cool. it was hard to find a parking spot, but it definitely brought out some wierdos.

steve and chris, as well as some other cool people i talked with at the show invited me to a party that night (which was someones bday?) and shawna wanted to hang out too.. but i really needed to get home and shower as well as change clothes.. maybe next time i will stay longer.. and one of these days i will actually get to hang out with shawna ;)

the absolute highlight of the trip was chris' hospitality. i really felt like i was at home and among good friends the entire time. i also got a free organix t shirt.. HELL YEAH! ;)

First off, this morning I parked my bike in the coffee shop.. when I went to order chai, I heard this CRASH, then WAAAAAHHH.. Looked over, and my bike had fallen on this little kid! Luckily he was okay.

I worked on my next mix for a while, as I had time to kill before leaving to go meet Danielle. Wasnt sure if we were actually going to meet up that day, as she sounded kind of wierd about it on the phone over the weekend. Well, 1:00, the usual time rolls around and theres no call. I figured she went home to eat or something (which she has done a few times), but still hadnt heard from her about 2, so I called with no answer. 3:00 rolls around, and I call again, thinking that if she isnt there this time im just going to forget it. She answers the phone, and I ask if we are going to see eachother today. She said that she was busy all day today with some miscellaneous stuff.

I have been sensing that something is wrong for a few weeks now (we havent had sex for at least that amount of time, which is painfully long for some reason), as things between us have been getting worse since she started school.. Anyway, I asked if we were going to see eachother soon at all, and she said probably not this week, but that she did need to talk with me, but didnt want to do it over the phone.

FUCK.. I knew exactly what that conversation was going to be about..

So, knowing that I would be stewing over this all week, I told her that we should talk about it now because it would bother me until we did. She began to remind me about how things have been hard between us since she has been going to school (keep in mind, she lives and goes to school 1.5 hours away, works 45 mins away) and she almost feels like she doesnt have time for me.. about how she has been losing touch with some of her friends, because she doesnt have enough time to balance them with fulltime work and school.. all of which are about 80% of the reason..So before she could say it.. I said "then do you want to separate for a while, or break up completely?" She began to remind me about something she said long ago about not being into the whole break up/get back together thing with relationships, that when they end they are over. We made plans to go to this rave on halloween many weeks before, and she said she still wanted to do that. We also made plans to be together on my birthday, but she didnt seem to mention that. A part of me thinks that she just wants to go, because I am getting in for free. Maybe that isnt the case. Whatever.

So at 3:15 today, our relationship of 7 months came to an end. Fuck. I was starting to believe that this could blossom into something. My friends, her friends and even my parents felt very positive about our relationship. Even writing this hurts. We fell in love with eachother, which is something I havent been part of for a while. I guess this is just one of the potential consequences of giving someone your heart.. be prepared to have it shattered into a million pieces. At least I was able to experience it..

Although a big part of my life for the last 1/2 year or so has been taken away, there are some positives out of this. I have this new found energy to give more attention to some aspects of my life that I have been neglecting. I have a strong desire to have some kind of balance return to my life.. which as I look back at the last year or so, is something that I havent had for quite some time.
